I bought this fryer with very high hopes as I have two cast iron skillets and one cast iron skillet and am in the process of replacing an old cookware that was coated with non stick materials that are long gone. The pans originally belonged to my grandfather, although he only used them briefly before they became too bulky and were not pre-seasoned. I've been using it exclusively for a few years and have been able to create a fantastic seasoning on it and have had no problems with it at all. The pan was bought two years ago, is already seasoned and, like the pans, didn't cause me any problems, although I use them much less often than the pans. So, based on my past experiences, I expected similar results. from this hut a brazier. So imagine my surprise (and eventual disappointment) when I received it, washed it before use, and cooked my first meal in it as instructed. and the food, porridge, came out black. Although the porridge was edible, it clearly looked unappetizing and I wondered what could be in the brazier that might explain this and how it might affect the bodies of those who ate it. I washed the brazier. , following the instructions again, and noticed that after drying the pot, a black residue remained on the towel used to dry the pot. I found it weird, used hot soapy water, washed again and noticed the same thing. That has never happened to me. I made khichari (mung bean rice dish) which also turned black when cooked instead of turning the traditional golden color. Again, it was edible, but an off-putting color. I washed the pan a few times but the towel was still black on the drying cloth. Finally, I made black beans because it wouldn't matter if they turned black. As you can see from the pictures uploaded, the pot looks fairly clean with no leftover food, but used tea towels will continue to turn black. This is NOT normal behavior for cast iron cookware! I just koshered the pot with the salt (like one would do to remove sticky food) to rid the pot of what is turning anything cooked in it black and the salt black. and the towels still turn black. It's a loss to explain, but I know I won't be buying pre-aged Lodge cast iron cookware in the future. I buy cast iron cookware that hasn't been pre-treated at my local hardware store because I know that while it will take time to achieve the desired level of seasoning, I won't end up with products with a black tint. I hope to be able to return this and I urge caution in anyone considering purchasing this item. This isn't my grandparents' cast-iron cookware!
