I don't have a plumbing or electrical background but I love reading instructions and understanding everything. I was able to install it myself in a day after going to the hardware store to get the materials listed in the instructions. At least *think* I could set it up very well. Prior to installation, the home here in Minnesota was in its teens or even lower during the winter. After installation in the house, it is usually around 20 degrees when the hygrostat is at full power. Definitely an improvement, but nowhere near the 45% the device is talking about. I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly, so I think the most likely reason for the difference is that it's a big, old, probably leaky house. I'm a bit surprised that every time I inspect the filter I haven't actually felt any moisture, even though yellow spots are forming on the filter, which must be related to the minerals in the water. Until I figure out if it's okay not to feel wet I'll leave it at 4 stars.
