Review on πŸ“» Enhanced QYT KT-8900D Mobile Transceiver: 25W, VHF 144-148MHz, UHF 420-450MHz, Dual Band Quad Standby Mini Car Radio by Shane Black

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as expected for the price but there are some quirks hence only 4 stars.

Good entry-level radio, especially the ability to monitor 4 channels at the same time. Easy setup with Chirp programming software. Very compact design, easy to mount in almost any situation. All functions work well except for the frequency selector, which quickly switches back several channels. A simple workaround is to use the keyboard on the microphone to select the channel you want, or the channel up or down button if you want to move up multiple channels at once. Has a scanning function that can be run on any of the 4 monitor areas, but only on one at a time. Pair it with a simple magnetic mount antenna and you're good to go. If you are a new radio amateur or GMRS licensee this is worth a look. Be careful with the power settings when using them with GMRS, they have finite power level limits.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
