Good entry-level radio, especially the ability to monitor 4 channels at the same time. Easy setup with Chirp programming software. Very compact design, easy to mount in almost any situation. All functions work well except for the frequency selector, which quickly switches back several channels. A simple workaround is to use the keyboard on the microphone to select the channel you want, or the channel up or down button if you want to move up multiple channels at once. Has a scanning function…

Be careful, do your homework. I had to return this radio

Final UPDATE DATE After contacting the seller several times but not receiving any help from him, Revane approached and offered to replace the radio. The second radio has an issue that causes the radio to turn off after loading and booting instead of restarting. The seller said if it works please use it. OMG Too many issues with the two devices I've tried to list here. The following is important to me.1. Screen Flicker 2. High, Mid, and Low RF settings appear to have little effect on RF output…

HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you know it's not a Cadillac

HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you know it's not a Cadillac. Monthly prize draw.PLUS1) Allows control and use of FOUR frequencies with just one antenna2) SMALL footprint - takes up very little space in your cabin or car3) COST4) Very low power consumption and easily plugs into cigarette lighter or vehicle power port . (VERY MINOR) PROBLEMS 1) The strain relief on the microphone cable touches the right handle. I put a strain relief on the cable and solved the problem. 2) The handles are now securely…

Chirp supports this radio - at least when I bought it -

ok. I want to connect a PC to it and use it for BBS/Packet Radio and local calls. The radio works, but it's only as good as your antenna - a $100 GP-1 Comet and good quality cable will go a long way - I got an SWR of 1.12 (pictured above) on my SWR meter when i tested/you don't get some 25 watts but it's close enough. I have about 50-60 field repeaters programmed for my area no matter where I live, I'm on a mountainside not in a hole so I can hit repeaters 50 miles north of me and 50 miles…

Returns in 4 hours

Not a bad unit. I ordered from amazon.com on February 6th and received it on February 8th. After unpacking, I attached a mobile antenna to my SWR 144/430 in the office. The SWR on 2m was about 2.3 and on 70cm about 1.5, not very good but my antenna sucked. Good enough for testing. The output power is about 18-20 watts on UHF and about 15 on VHF. I wasn't too happy but after reading other reviews I expected that. Apparently most Chinese radios do not produce the advertised power. I didn't like…

Great radio for the money

I received this radio not expecting much. There is a QYT KT7900/8900 group on Facebook that has given mixed reviews about the radio's performance. First, make sure you have the 2nd Gen KT8909D. Apparently there were some issues with earlier radios, but these seem to have been fixed in the second generation. I connected the radio to a 12 volt power supply and turned it on. The radio came with a programming cable but I had to download the driver from Miklor.com. I also used the CHIRP software to…

Manual Stinks for CB & Two Way Radios

Although the radio is designed as "Mobile Two Way Radio, Dual-Band QUAD Standby VHF/UHF 136-174/400-480MHz, Mini Car Ham Radio" is described. it is an illusion. I'm not sure what "QUAD Standby" means or if I want that. The illustration shows 4 VFOs, but unless there's a trick I haven't discovered, you can't load individual bands or even band segments. in additional VFOs. I am using the RT Systems software and cable to download repeaters and radio system settings. After programming all the…
