Review on 🌊 Extech EC400: Waterproof Conductivity & Temperature Meter for Accurate Measurements by Paul Andrews

Works but documentation needs updating

Bought to test the salinity in my pool. My saltwater system was reporting too much salinity, but I didn't trust it. I was able to use this and make sure the salt level was actually too high. Pros - Instant reading that seems accurate for salinity. Cons - the display is not intuitive. The manual is multilingual and my version was messed up - Spanish pages mixed with English :( Even after I found the right manual pages it wasn't clear how to take salinity measurements. Information for people who use this to measure the salinity in their To measure pool 1) Press the power button until the display appears. It performs a self-calibration - wait for the numbers to appear on the display. 2) Press and hold the Hold/Mode button until PPM and S appear at the top of the display. 3. Remove the cap from the bottom of the probe and immerse it in a water sample (about 1.5 inches deep), gently agitate to remove air bubbles. Read the value - write down the number and tick "ppm" - if it has changed to "ppt" you need to multiply the number by 1000 to get the parts per million. For example, my reading was 5.1 and the display read ppt (parts per thousand), which equals PPM 5100. It should be in the 2500 to 3500 range depending on your saltwater generator. Hope that helps.

Pros
  • Testing, measuring and checking
Cons
  • Large and bulky
