Review on πŸ’Ύ Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2242 DRAM-Less SSD: High Performance, Low Power Internal Storage Solution (SB-1342-1TB) by Jairo Cunha

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Worked great, good except for one thing

Late 2016 Late 2016 MacBook Pro 13" without the touch bar my son had to replace the logic board and after that it worked great. The only problem was that the SSD was 256GB and it felt so small to me now. So I bought this drive and installed it using an adapter also sold by Revain. Everything was great! Fast (2600MB/s read; 2100MB/s write) and cool work. Then I rebooted for the first time. And by that I mean use the "Reboot" menu item or button as needed and everything became risky. Each reboot resulted in the machine crashing and triggering a crash as expected report. This happened on EVERY reboot without exception. With a perfectly running machine, I could let it happen at will. Turning it on was possible by closing the lid and servicing. It was then restarted when the lid was open. I spoke to Sabrent and they did their best to find the cause without doing anything. Finally, I put the Apple branded SSD back into the machine and the crashes were gone immediately. I was disappointed n, and that's putting it mildly. Later I read a blog (sorry I don't remember which one) that listed compatible SSDs for this machine. This Sabrent NVMe M.2 2242 was not listed. Should it be? I had no idea but reinstalling the Apple SSD solved the problem. And I understand the fallacy of post hoc, ergo propter hoc, but the Sabrent replacement solved my problem. Was this problem just me? Again, I have no idea, but that IS what happened and I feel like I should at least let others know about it.

Pros
  • Solid workmanship
Cons
  • I'll write later
