Awesome SSD for MacBook Pro A1708

Installed this SSD in my MacBook Pro (model A1708) using the M.2 NVMe to A1708 SSD Slot Adapter Board. Restart the computer by holding the CMD + R keys until you see the recovery mode on the screen. Type Disk Utilities and the hard drive should appear. Make sure you select "Show all devices" (in the top left corner of the screen); not all volumes, otherwise you will not be able to choose the right partition. Select the device at the top level (not volume), select the GUID partition and proceed…

Perfect for HP Elitebook 840 G2 but won't start

Perfect for M.2 slot, no physical installation issues (HP Elitebook 840 G2 supports 2242 and 2260 cards). Attempting to install as primary drive - WIN 10 installation (via USB) recognized the drive, partitioned and installed the files, but the system finds/cannot find the EFI (bootable) file on the drive. Contacted Sabrent tech support (not very helpful but they answered) and HP tech support (again answered but not very helpful). Note that you CAN install this drive as an additional drive on…

Make sure you have NVME version 1.2 or higher

This is the perfect SSD capacity upgrade for laptops that only have one 2242 nvme slot. It has no DRAM and therefore slightly better battery life, and most laptops or their users won't miss the difference with a performance NVMe SSD. UPDATE: Make sure your Nvme version is 1.2 or higher as it can use some of the system DRAM to create the index which will bring it up to the speed you should expect from a decent Nvme drive . I put it in a USB-C enclosure and it didn't perform much better than a…

Does NOT work with Macbook Pro A1708 (2017)

The first sign of a problem was a very questionable installation that resulted in the computer shutting down and having to restart multiple times. The first thing I did after installation was to run the Black Magic Speedtest to compare the speeds to my factory Apple 256 SSD and with the factory HDD I got 2370MB/s read and 1313MB /s write. After installation I got 1700/1700 on the first test, then all tests after that the read speed was just under 1000. Then the macbook wouldn't restart after…

Heartbroken - Datastore

I received this NVMe (SB-1342-512) two days ago. I installed it on my HP ZBook 15u G2 laptop. I was able to install Windows 10 on it, but the laptop refused to boot from NVMe even though the laptop supports booting from a PCIe/M.2 slot. After much research and troubleshooting I was able to use both of NVMe. As shown below, the performance was good. A NOTICE. The HP ZBook 15u G2 PCIe/M.2 slot only supports two buses instead of four, so the speeds are listed below. TO UPDATE. The drive failed…

Worked great, good except for one thing

Late 2016 Late 2016 MacBook Pro 13" without the touch bar my son had to replace the logic board and after that it worked great. The only problem was that the SSD was 256GB and it felt so small to me now. So I bought this drive and installed it using an adapter also sold by Revain. Everything was great! Fast (2600MB/s read; 2100MB/s write) and cool work. Then I rebooted for the first time. And by that I mean use the "Reboot" menu item or button as needed and everything became risky. Each reboot…

Mac A1708 MacBook Pro 2017 Installation Tips

I first bought an unnamed SSD/adapter on eBay and wasn't happy with the read speed (<500MB/s). So I returned it and bought this Sabrent and a Sintech ST-NG2016PRO adapter. Here are some installation tips (most of which are probably obvious to many of you): - Back up your Mac to an external hard drive (I used Time Machine) - Also install the macOS installer to an external hard drive (I have Big Also made Sur , and Mojave, just in case) - When removing the bottom of the MacBook, lift the…
