Mac A1708 MacBook Pro 2017 Installation Tips

I first bought an unnamed SSD/adapter on eBay and wasn't happy with the read speed (<500MB/s). So I returned it and bought this Sabrent and a Sintech ST-NG2016PRO adapter. Here are some installation tips (most of which are probably obvious to many of you): - Back up your Mac to an external hard drive (I used Time Machine) - Also install the macOS installer to an external hard drive (I have Big Also made Sur , and Mojave, just in case) - When removing the bottom of the MacBook, lift the non-hinged side first, then use the suction cup to slide the cover off the hinge (find a YouTube video , which explains this). It doesn't climb straight up - look for a video showing you how to disconnect the battery. Something I wasn't clear on was how to remove the connector just above the battery. First, slide the large (1/2" x 3") plastic guard to the left (mine didn't lift straight up because the pads on the bottom were holding on to a tiny ribbon connector). Then use the tab at the top of the connector to gently pull the connector to the left and remove it from its socket. Then disconnect the battery. After you install the adapter and then the drive, you can use the Kapton tape to replace the tape you removed from the drive (I'm not sure if this is necessary). - Press "Option" key at startup. Use Disk Utility to format the new SDD. Make sure you use the 'View' dropdown menu in the top left corner to select 'Show All Devices'. This is required to format the hard drive. I chose APFS and GUID. If you don't select a GUID, you won't be able to install MacOS to the hard drive --> Now to the overview. Everything seems to be working fine - my read/write speed is around 1800-1900 MB/s. I definitely recommend this combination. I had trouble formatting the drive (user error - before I found the 'Show All Devices' dropdown menu). I called Revain and they immediately put me in contact with Sabrent customer service.
