KONA vs Bodum Best Coffee Maker

**Trust verified customer reviews only!**After a year of loyal service, I broke my Bodum carafe and went to see if there was anything better before spending $20. to replace the decanter. Like you, I found KONA at the top of the French Press bestseller list. The reviews all seem positive overall and with the 34oz decanter, if I don't like the individual details I could reuse the Bodum components. Any of them will make a good kettle for tea or coffee, but the quality of the ingredients determines the longevity of these kettles. For anyone in a similar situation or trying to decide between the two pots, here are the main differences. In the attached pictures, part is KONA on the left, Bodum on the right. In the spring comparison image, Bodum is at the bottom. Glass: Both use borosilicate glass, which should be more resistant to thermal shock, but my Bodum shattered easily on my granite counter. KORA - the carafe cannot be separated from the plastic frame Bodum - the carafe can be separated from the metal frame. Lid: KORA uses a very thin plastic that is easy to squeeze from the edges. The entire lid rotates when positioned for pouring. Bodum uses metal for the outer lid, which feels heavier and more premium, with an insulated plastic piece that rotates independently when positioned for pouring. Spiral Plate (Plate with Holes and Spring): KONA uses 2 rows of holes in their plate. going from small to big. The metal used in the spring has a smaller gauge. Bodum uses 3 rows of holes in his plate ranging from very small to medium. The metal used in the spring is thicker. Filter Screen: This is an important difference between pots and is related to the longevity of the screens between pots. KONA uses a very simple filter without the added support of a B-pillar. Over time, this hole lengthens and requires a screen change. Bodum uses a reinforced center screen grid for the post. The screen in the picture I've included is my original screen which is over a year old and still works fine. Cross Plate: The cutouts appear to be about the same size, so it's safe to assume the Bodum will let more liquid through. .KONA uses a 3-hole pattern. Bodum uses a 4 hole pattern. At the same time, I think the higher price of Bodum Chambord is justified. Lid, spring and filter made of higher quality materials or higher design cause additional costs. What KONA did for me was replace my broken carafe and gave me a set of replacement plates and a lightweight filter that is smaller than the Bodum replacement carafe. So, should you buy the Kona? My humble recommendations: First french press pot - buy a Bodum replacement decanter for a broken Bodum - buy a Kona and reuse the Bodum parts (assuming you don't mind using the Bodum frame)
