The glass has a plastic feel as mentioned in some other reviews. However, they will send you a glass sample to test (I assume it's the same as in the lamp). However, I believe it is stained glass, especially because of the incredibly beautiful lamp when lit. It has three options - a night light, which is very handy; a light in the main lantern; or both lights in the main lamp (including the lamp base are on). I look at red considering it's my favorite color and they look so much like rubies. I wouldn't praise the lamp so much if I wasn't so happy with this product. My guess, based on other reviews, is that although the glass looks like plastic, I suspect stained glass connoisseurs would have already shown it as something other than real stained glass if it weren't real. So I believe it's real based on how beautiful it is and also based on the fact that nobody else has proven it's not (mind you I'm no connoisseur of stained glass - just very happy with this one Product). For these reasons I would give it more than a 5 star rating if I could. I've had it for 2 years now and am looking for another slightly customized style from the same manufacturer so I'll be back to write a review. I have entertained several people in my house in the 2 years that I have owned it and have often found that other people are just as in love with it as I am.
