The red is a little more magenta than it appears on screen but its nice enough too look at. My alternative was a one hour drive to town and then go from store to store looking for something I liked. I am having trouble getting it to lay completely flat after 2 weeks, and you definitely need a pad .Update: The rug is holding up quite well against dirt and dogs. I like it so much I bought 2 matching runners for my hallway to replace some runners I bought from Kohls for twice the price and half the quality.
