Everything works as advertised, clunky scanner software

I downloaded and installed the drivers from the Epson product page and then connected this printer using a USB cable from my old printer. Once set up, everything worked flawlessly and my MacBook Pro was able to find and print to this printer with no problem. I don't print much so I haven't used a lot of ink so far. Paper feeding, printing, etc. work exactly as expected. The only time I had the hiccups was when I tried to print something while the printer was idle: the computer sent a print job to the printer, but it seemed stuck in a "wake up" loop; I canceled the job, waited for the printer to complete the cycle it was going through and resubmitted the job and it printed fine. Since then I haven't had this problem anymore. The scanner software is really clunky. I may not have fully explored all the ins and outs, but I feel like the various settings are organized into a really cumbersome setup and the way it handles filenames is terrible. Scanning material with my HP All-in-One was much smoother. Another thing to note is that the paper tray sticks out at the back so it's a little awkward to put on a bookshelf like it used to be. HP (the paper loaded from the front). But I couldn't find a front-loading printer with all these features in this price range, so I guess it's just kind of a compromise.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • boring packaging
