My handyman can't hold them out of the blue.

I used Craftsman ratchets for as long as I could until I found these. For non-professional tools, this is a beautifully crafted ratchet set. The finish is very pleasant. Feels good in the hand, well balanced. The flat head is a big plus. It's not a quick release, but it's not a deal breaker. I use them with Craftsman sockets and they separate just fine. I have some old snap-on and mac tools that are in a class by themselves. They will definitely keep their position in the mid-range market. I also bought the 120XP but I have to admit I like them a bit more and the reverse resistance is much lower on the 84T. The 120XP is a great ratchet set but for my application I just couldn't get past the play they had. If you get into the 75T+ line of ratchets I think they all work pretty well in tight situations. I looked at Husky, Kobalt, Pittsburgh and some of the new Craftsman ratchets. They're all decent products for light commercial use or shade tree mechanics, but Gearwrench seemed to crowd them out in the stats that mattered to me. In terms of warranty, Gearwrench (Apex Tool) seems to be doing their warranty very well. I didn't find too many reviews from people who had problems with these ratchets, but the few that said they didn't have warranty problems. I love the no-problem guarantee from HD, Lowes and HFT, but they sometimes change the design of their tools, so there's no guarantee you'll get the same key back if you need to exchange it. I don't think Gearwrench will be changing them any time soon. Bottom line, these are some of the best ratchets in this category for the money. If you're in a trade that requires the daily use of hand tools, then get out there and spend money on snap on's or something similar. You will have her forever. These gearwrench ratchets would make a great addition to your professional toolbox or as a staple in your home garage. As much as I'd love to buy American instruments, these Taiwanese made ratchets cool.
