This tool is NOT intended for removing water heater components. It was designed to remove the corners from the element nuts, which requires replacing the entire water heater. The sleeve is beveled and will NOT properly fit the extremely thin element nut. It does not make contact with the sides of the nut as contact occurs where the gaping edge of the socket is beveled. To use this tool on a water heater you will need to cut the beveled edge off the top of the deep socket. If you don't, the items will most likely be rounded and not interchangeable. However, cutting off the tip may result in it not being deep enough to reach the nut.
