Review on Infrared Remote Extender Cable - IR Extender with 1 Emitters 1 Receiver (20FT) for Cable Box Hidden IR Repeater System by Trevor Blazis

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Insufficient range of receiver and transmitter

The receiver will not work further than 2.5m so it needs to be halfway between the TV and the remote control . in two different situations I tried. The receivers on three of my TVs work well at >20ft, but this one isn't sensitive enough for anything other than small apartment situations. The transmitter also needs to be within < 15 feet of the cable box, which also doesn't work for my box which is in a large room. I actually got the system working by hanging the receiver between me (the remote) and the TV AND putting the transmitter in the middle of the living room, but that's obviously not an acceptable long-term solution. It also looks like using a USB power adapter that doesn't switch with the TV (as suggested) isn't a good solution, even in situations where receiver/transmitter ranges are adequate. The LED could be covered, but the loss of performance and the receiver's limited lifetime in continuous operation would be unacceptable. The product description should contain at least information on the maximum reception and transmission range.

Pros
  • {HOME CINEMA ACCESSORY} repeats IR signal to DVD player, STB, receiver or other A/V source with infrared sensor; Hide the cable with the wall-mounted HDTV; Install the end of the IR emitter in a hidden equipment closet to hide the cable box and control remotely
Cons
  • Available in black only
