Review on Long-Lasting Power: EBL Rechargeable C Batteries With 5000MAh Capacity, Pack Of 8 by Eddie Orrell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Work well and do retain charge for at least several months.

The failure rate of these seems to be about 10% (3 out of 32 cells) but this may be in part due to they way the cells ar used. I use them in outdoor path lights and they stay in there through typical winter and summer weather. I generally swap them out with a second set about every six months or when I notice that a light no longer auto-switches to bright mode when the motion sensor is tripped. The cells that failed came from lights that had gone completely out, so the cells in question likely went to complete discharge (bad for most rechargeables). I use chargers that have a "soft charge" capability. They use a lower charging current so it takes much longer to charge the batteries but prolongs the cell life. They also have a "condition" mode that discharges the batteries and recharges them for several cycles. This has "brought back" several cells that I thought had completely failed. The failure rate of 10% is for my initial set of batteries that I used for about three years before any cells failed. My only real critique is that using the EBL charger runs them in fast-charge mode and the cells get quite hot. That also does not help battery life - but that's more of a charger problem than a battery problem.

Pros
  • Good product at a good price.
Cons
  • Some users may prefer to use non-rechargeable batteries instead of rechargeable ones
