Review on 🧴 Efficient Simplehuman Stainless Sanitizer Dispenser Brush: Keep Your Hands Clean! by Christopher Millet

Works well, advanced technology, possibly short lifespan, unusual warranty

I bought this item for a new bathroom decoration. Worked well and was reliable. It lasted ten months of daily use, to the point that it completely failed after about 300 uses and a few battery charges. Forensic analysis of the failure concluded that the internally protected battery or its electronic control (within the battery) had failed. The rest of the device appears to be fully functional but cannot be repaired and reassembled with a new battery. Just another device that will end up in a landfill after a very short lifespan. I applied for warranty coverage and had to jump through the hoops, snap a photo of the donor with a handwritten note and upload it to their website. A lot of people can't! After the ridiculous part where no human interaction is possible without an apology, they immediately approved the replacement. They sent out a series of very professional emails and quickly sent out an improved block with a few tweaks. It works great but the posts have mentioned that the replaced unit is NOT under warranty. My internal inspection of the failed unit revealed interesting facts. The blockage cannot be repaired under any circumstances. It cannot be disassembled without breaking the glued joints and destroying the case. It has an impressive level of intricate engineering inside, for both electrical and mechanical design. Many of the features are clearly designed to fix design flaws in previous versions, which explains the large number of bugs reported in the reviews. The features I liked were the pumping mechanism, the feed tube, and the many intricate gaskets and seals at the entry points. to prevent water ingress and corrosion. In particular, even PCB areas have been protected with conformal coating, an advanced method of protecting high-reliability devices. It worked, but those efforts are doomed to failure unless engineers protect everything that corrodes. Skip just one small detail and you'll be selling tens of thousands of soap dispensers that don't last long enough to celebrate a first birthday. Summary: This is a sealed non-Navy MILITARY product designed to survive years of wet environments. This is the best you can do for a low price. Over time, moisture penetrates and causes corrosion. I found some corrosion in the failed block, but it was scattered, not at the point of entry. This suggests that it is exposed not only to the humid air from hot bathroom showers, but also to the moisture from the soap it contains and the water used to wash the outside. Don't expect longevity from it. Product. It is sold at Costco with a lifetime warranty. For this reason, next time I will buy from Costco. Remember to keep your bathroom ventilated and dry, and do not submerge this device under running water to wash it. part to see if I can find the cause of the error. I am good at it. Testing each part individually, I made sure that the entire system worked in parts but failed to take a charge into the battery. I set up a separate lab metering system to monitor voltage and current while the battery is being charged by a programmable charger. This allowed me to exclude the built in USB powered charger from the system in case it was causing problems. I found that the battery has high internal resistance and will not accept charge or deliver current to the load. That was the problem. battery failure. Of course I don't give up easily. The work is not complete until the actual root cause is found. I noticed that under the shrink wrap was a long object that was most definitely a cell onboard the Battery Management System (BMS). This is an advanced electronic circuit board that protects the battery from USB charging system failures and protects the rest of the system in the event of a short circuit that could melt parts of the system, cause a fire or damage the battery. As I said. There used to be a lot of cutting-edge technology in this humble soap dispenser! For most products, the BMS is not used separately from the motherboard. I carefully cut away the plastic wrap and found another layer of Kapton tape securing the BMS board to the battery case. I carefully removed the tape and the BMS board fell off one of the two flat metal connectors that were welded to the battery. After all! The mistake was obvious. A connector under the BMS board was completely corroded leaving only tiny fragments of metal to conduct electricity. THIS IS THE CAUSE! Initial analysis revealed signs of corrosion and many individual design and sealing changes aimed at preventing all of the failure modes that have made this product so unreliable in the past. The unit I purchased had no failures in these areas, but the presence of prolonged warm air and high humidity destroyed the metal cable protected by a sealed layer of Kapton tape and another layer of blue plastic shrink. It looks like the hasty installation of the Kapton tape left a lot of gaps around the BMS board, allowing moisture to seep into the delicate metal connection and destroy the block. . This detective story was funny and taught us the lesson that most consumer electronics products designed for use in high humidity environments have many failure modes and short lifespans.
