This is a great safety device, small, light weight, easy to activate and operated with gloves. The battery life is really good, much better than I expected. It's easy to see the LEDs telling you it's working but not distracting. It works in places where there is no cellular connection. I repeat again: it works where there is no cellular connection. If you never go to areas without network coverage, don't worry about this device. It uses satellites in low earth orbit, so I expect the terrain to have some impact on it. The tracking occasionally skipped checks when I was under heavy tree cover for over 3 minutes and I had 15 minute pauses in tracking (5 minute breadcrumbs set), but this is more of a life/safety device, not a logbook. Attachment options are still limited a year after debut, wish there was a better way to attach it to a jacket. I currently sew nylon webbing onto my jackets and thread SPOT nylon webbing through. If there was a better way to attach to jackets it would be a lot more useful. Yes, you need a computer to change the reporting interval, but you can start using it right away. I used mine for a couple of weeks before hooking it up to my computer.
