Many people have said their collars are defective and have shown photos to prove it is a "non-martingale" collar. And to be honest, this product doesn't come with any pictures or instructions to really show how to use it for the first time, so I can see how confusing it can be. So I've provided photos to show how to position the collar the way it should be, starting with it straight out of the box. 1st image: This is an example of people showing "defective" and not working. And they are right. If you use the collar as it is shown here, it will not work. You are using the wrong opening. SO2 th - Pull off the collar where my fingers are visible. 3. - NOW put the collar on so that the dog's head goes through the big hole. 4th - The collar is in the tightest position. This photo shows the collar becoming looser. Again the dog's head goes through a large hole and now you will see how the collar can tighten when the dog pulls. Hope this helps some people! This is a really good and effective collar. I got one from the shelter where I found my dog and he outgrew him so I needed the next size up.
