Worked great for me to connect HDMI to a DISplayPort monitor that didn't have an HDMI port. ***Please note that this device requires a powered USB port**, not just a data port. ***Some USB ports do not provide enough power to operate this adapter even when the LED is lit. This confused me a bit when I plugged it into a data-only USB port. Moving the USB port to a real power adapter (simple USB charger) solved the problem and everything worked as expected. but work with a reduced maximum resolution on the target monitor. For example, my 1920 x 1280 monitor only shows up as a 1600 x 900 monitor in the display configuration settings. (That was a headache!) Overall, it does what it says on the tin and, at around $30, it's pretty affordable too. I don't know how long this will last, but running the system with surge protection should protect it from surges and transients.
