This set was perfect for what I need it for: taking it to work and using it at home as I can't trust my roommate's dishwashing skills. However, I've had the set for almost two months and have noticed a few small scratches here and there (the chopsticks already had a few very small scratches when they arrived). Unfortunately, the reviewer who said the metal itself is painted rather than just plated was wrong. The scratches clearly show the gray metal underneath. To see scratches, however, you have to look very closely. This still means there will come a day when scratches aren't so subtle, but that day seems far enough away to justify buying a set. The rainbow color is so bright and beautiful and I bought it because purple is the most obvious color and because it comes with a cleaning brush (I've used it every time and it makes cleaning the straws a lot easier).
