Worth the Hassle - Spark Plugs and Wires

Motorcraft Spark Plug SP-479ACCEL 140032-8 SuperCoil Ignition Coil Set (Qty 8) GearWrench Spark Plug Pliers 80546 5/8" x 6" Swivel Plug Ignition SocketGarage quoted $100 per cylinder plus parts for replacing spark plugs and coils on spark plugs on a 2003 Expeditionary 5.4 V8 with 100,000 miles. The above parts cost less than $250. Read internet forums for good information. This work was completed within two days. Day One - Remove the coils, blow out the spark plug wells, add a PB blaster and loosen the spark plug a quarter turn. Leave overnight. Day Two - Blow out the candle wells and remove the candles. The turnkey head was worth the price - I don't know how it was possible to remove and install the rear connector without it. Take your time, the plugs will get hard/tight. Tighten by hand and use a torque wrench. The camping mattress topper was useful to throw over the engine if you spend time on it. Consumption on the motorway increased from 16 l/100 km to 13 l/100 afterwards. More importantly, the check engine light is off.
