I have 38's and with Campagnolo Shamal rims I had to run them tubed for a couple of rides to set the beads good enough to fit properly without tubes. The good news is that the bead is really tight so you can be sure it will stay in place once installed. The bad news is you're better off having a strong tubeless mojo to tune them (at least on something like Shamals). Once I set them up they were a dream. I use them at around 40psi and they are very comfortable on tarmac, rough pavement, dry sand, mud and pea-sized gravel. I tried a few different tires on my current bike and these tubeless tires proved to be the winners.
