Medium Hardness. The bristles are nice and flexible, but not too soft. I don't use a dust pan, but the broom goes right in. I clean the house for a living and this broom fits perfectly in my apron pocket. I use it to remove dust from carpets where a vacuum can't reach, usually where the carpet is touching an edge. I also use it to sweep dust out of the air vents. Air vents under the fridge. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the circular handle makes it awkward to hold. It just doesn't feel right in the hand.
