Review on πŸš† Optimized VXT5000SA: Vixen Air 5 Gallon (18 Liter) 9 Ports Suspension/Train/Horn Aluminum Air Tank System/Kit for 200 PSI by Ben Almasri

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The demonstration tank, wasn't it designed by an engineer who doubted the integrity of the design?

This tank is good looking, a good size and generally good for those hard to reach spots. It offers many connection options in different sizes. Unfortunately it was made from the equivalent of schedule 10 pipe, then the holes were drilled and taped so the only beef on those tips is about 1/8" maybe 9/64" if you're really lucky. I used stainless steel threaded fittings and did not over tighten. Once I started building the pressure I sprayed (sprayed) all the fittings with soapy water and I could tell I was going to have some fun. When working with stainless steel fittings I felt the threads were not clean but how clean they could be, like aluminum threads on a tank. Pulling the fittings, taping and waterproofing my fittings couldn't prepare me to wrap those aluminum threads as they were almost non-existent. I have two choices. Drain that tank and switch to a stainless steel tank, or weld aluminum blocks to the tank, then drill and cut them so you can screw some beef into the rails before the aluminum tank's flimsy 1/8-inch threads under 10 pounds breaks torque. . My Vixen suggestion is to just weld some aluminum washers to the tank at your drain and faucet outlets.

  • Decent performance
