These candles don't glow softly, but bright yellow. Flicker mode isn't really a smooth flicker, more like the flickering of a candle, while fast flicker mode is just a strobe. Overall, I would give this product three stars because while it works and saves you money on batteries, it's not the soft, relaxing glow that I was hoping for. In fact, it makes me uncomfortable to look at it when flicker mode is on. It might be good for displaying Christmas decorations, but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic night
