The first (1) I received was defective. Revain was able to get the seller to send me a replacement. The replacement was tested by me BEFORE I removed the strip from the spool and found it worked. I attached tape around the bird bath and made sure the solar panel was placed where it would get the most sun. Now it works great. The solar panel has an on/off switch and a mode switch. I would have liked more if this device had a SELECTOR SWITCH with instructions stating which mode does what. This block is NOT. You have to play with the mode switch until you find the mode you want. Once I've done that, there's nothing further to do. It "turns on" when it's dark and "turns off" when it's dark.
