This coffee maker makes great coffee! We've been drinking a lot more coffee since we bought it. It is also very easy to use. Some of the other reviews appear to apply to the 453, which appears identical to the 452 except for the controls. This model has only two switches. One switch is the power switch and the other switch selects either 1-3 cups or 4-12 cups. There are no other controls in this model. This makes the coffee machine very easy to use! The filter basket folds down for easy filling. It is also easy to add water to the tank and the water level indicator is easy to read. The coffee maker comes with a carbon water filter but I didn't use it as I use water from a Brita water filter to make coffee. The carafe does not drip at all. In addition, when I removed the pot, no coffee dripped onto the hotplate. Cleaning is easy. The filter basket slides out easily. Carafe, lid, filter basket and gold filter are dishwasher safe. All in all I think this is a great coffee maker. I use freshly ground beans (medium grind), 0.2 ounces (by weight) for each 5 ounce cup of coffee, and I get good, strong coffee with no bitterness. Of course, you will have to adjust the degree of grinding or the amount of coffee depending on your personal preferences.
