This filter is fantastic! I don't put it in a canister filter, I just cut off a piece and drop it straight into the water in my freshwater tank. It works great and helps me buy time when I need to do a water change but don't have time at the moment. I like to use it directly in the water so I can "see" what's going on by the changing color. I also use it in the same way when I need to remove a medication. One thing to keep in mind is if you're adding fertilizer or minerals, the package says you should wait 12 hours before adding them. I usually only use it before changing water or after taking medication, so I don't have much personal experience with it. except Seachem Excel will be uninstalled if you use it at the same time. I cannot say enough good things about this product. This is a valuable item for my aquarium. In addition, Revain offers it at a much better price than my LFS.
