Review on πŸ’ͺ Enhance Performance with Taylor Cable 94560 Helix Power Tower Plus Throttle Body Spacer by Todd Vesci

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Surprisingly I think it works.

My first impression was a great, good CNC product. Looks like a quality item. Second impression: not really. It was a little difficult to line up behind the throttle body. The holes didn't seem to line up perfectly, but after some fiddling, I installed all four screws. The supplied bolts appear to be slightly larger in thread diameter than the stock bolts, but after the threads were lubricated with WD40, they went in without a fuss. The kit includes both a lock washer and a plain washer for each longer bolt, and it doesn't say why. The reason is that the studs are too long as there is no exit hole on the back of the TB. The washer on top of the lock washer is essentially a spacer, so be sure to use it. Since the part stood up normally after some convincing, the big question arises: Does it work? be yes On my first freeway test, after a 10-minute computer adjustment period, my 05 Amada calculated an average mileage of 19.5 one-way, then 20.7mpg if the same 10-mile route with mostly gentle hills/slopes and some flat roads was repeated. It was at 89 octane with no additives. That's about 1.5mpg more than my usual average of 18-19 on a good average octane day. Other observations: - I didn't notice any performance gains initially, but maybe a minimal improvement in pep on the way back. a soft whistle when the gas hums - barely perceptible and perhaps pleasant. - Have a can of throttle body cleaner ready when installing. I didn't and my TB had carbon buildup around the throttle body so I'll go back and do it. The intake manifold and piping have been bent/stretched enough to easily accommodate the gasket. The fan shroud is not an issue when the intake manifold is moved forward as it is below the manifold, but most of the space is gone to install a belt spool without removing the intake manifold. Secondary air intakes or deeper radiators can result in a tight or unusable fit. The pattern on the TB and intake line needs to be moved 1 inch closer to the radiator. All in all, this TB pad is worth its price!
