Review on πŸ”Œ CableDeconn SFF 8643 Internal Connectors H0204: Efficient Solution for Seamless Connectivity by Jacob Leon

Great SAS cables - great connections; excellent speed

I bought a High Point RocketRAID 3720A RAID controller ($259), 4 x 12GB 6TB SAS drives attached ($125 /pc.) and used these cables to connect my SFF-8643 to the drives. After setting up a four-drive RAID 5 array, I ran a Crystal DiskMark scan; it delivered a read speed of 637MB/s and an incredible write speed of 633MB/s. I was concerned about the speed because other people have reviewed these cables and stated that they only support 6GB/s cables, not the 12GB/s that the drives and controller are capable of; However, with advertised speeds from Crystal DiskMark, I think other reviewers could either plug in 6Gb/s SAS drives or use SATA drives: these drives are limited to 6Gb/s transfer rates, and no cable or controller gets better. speeds. PERFORMANCE I read online that while RAID-5 has very good read speeds, write speeds of 105MB/s were decent, so I decided to try writing in real-world conditions. I'm currently copying 11TB Plex movie files to my new array; the copy speed is around 600MB/s and Windows expects the copy to be completed in less than 6 hours. SUMMARY I bought two sets of cables because I will end up with an 8 drive RAID 5 array and these cables are exactly what I need. EXCELLENT WORK!

Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
