Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Handheld Console Portable Birthday Besosay by James Salem

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's a decent treat for the price

Compared to everything else out there, this retro portable player from Besosay isn't that great. However, given the price, it's really not that bad considering you're getting a rechargeable battery. Mini USB cable. You need to install the battery on the back of the device, but it takes 15 seconds. My battery was dead on arrival so I had to charge it with the cable that came with it. You'll need to buy your own power adapter, but one end of the cable is a standard full-size USB-A. There is a tiny red light visible when the device is charging, but I can't see if there is an indicator that the battery is 100% charged. However, I let it charge for almost 2 hours and decided it was enough. When you turn it on, you can choose between Chinese and English. From there you get a long list of ROMs to play with - they're all NES/Famicon ROMs, and I'm guessing there's some free homebrew stuff in there. The console advertises that it has 400 games, but it has duplicate ROMs in it, so the real number is probably between 280 and 300 games. The long list shows 8 game titles at once. Sometimes you know what game it is, sometimes you have no idea what you're getting - Mario 14, for example, is a bad ninja game that has a Mario skin applied to the main character. You'll see it all over the list. To navigate through the list, you can press the directional pad to move the cursor down one heading at a time, or press left or right to skip 8 headings at a time. Retrieving a title in the 125-275 range can be cumbersome. Once you defined your title, you pressed one of the buttons on the face. Pretty much every game I've played has loaded successfully. They all play like NES games with the d-pad, select, start and two face buttons. The other two face buttons are either repetitive or sometimes act like a turbo of A and B. The system itself is really cheap, as you'd expect at this price point. The screen is colored and glowing, but the quality is clearly not very good. You can't play in the sunlight, not bright enough. Also, I think the screen is off-center, so 1 or maybe 2 vertical rows of pixels are being cut off on the left side of my screen. The buttons are very responsive and better than I expected. Unfortunately, the volume control is almost unusable. The dial is set into a slot in the plastic case and I had to use a paper clip to get in there and flip it over. I keep it on low volume and now never adjust it. The speaker sucks, but it does the job. You can connect a second controller to the mini USB port and to my great surprise it works. It lets you play two-player games like Contra and Balloon Fight at the same time, and I didn't notice any lag with the second controller. The downside is that the cable is short, but if you're looking over someone's shoulder at a tiny screen, it doesn't matter that the cable is short. You can connect the console to a TV, but it only has one RCA mono audio output and one RCA video output. And this cable is very short. So you will most likely only use it if you have an RCA to HDMI adapter. It works, but it's not practical because the cables are very short. In any case, low-resolution graphics look pretty bad on a 46-inch TV. The list of games hit the mark. This included some original Nintendo games like Marios, Dr. Mario, ExciteBike, etc. There's also a lot of Konami games (lots of ninja turtle stuff) and Namco. There's also no option to save anything, so you don't get ROMs that need to be saved. That means no Zeldas, Final Fantasies, or Dragon Warriors. You also miss the Mega Man series and fun Tecmo games like Rygar and Tecmo Bowl (but you get Ninja Gaiden). Some games, like Contra, come with various preloaded 'Save Starts', so load up the Contra variant and start at level 6 with a cannon scattered everywhere. After all, this is a very cheap system that will play some NES ROMs. It's not so good. But for the money, a second controller and rechargeable battery (although a mini-USB is required) make the overall package surprisingly acceptable if you play some NES games on a plane or train and don't worry too much about losing or losing them want to damage system.
