Review on πŸ”₯ First Alert SCO500B: Wireless Interconnected Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Combo Alarm with Voice and Location Detection by Rashan Jimenez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great and high quality Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm

I bought two of these after being unhappy with the First Alert ZCOMBO made for the ring I was returning. This model can be linked to other SCO500B models so that if there is an alarm in another part of the house, all alarms will sound and give a voice alert. These devices can't connect to my Ring Alarm system. I agree as I discuss in my review of the ZCOMBO model. I had no trouble setting up these two devices and choosing the voice location. As long as there are no false alarms, the units will function normally. I read one star reviews and after a while people had false positives. Mine has been running for a week now with no issues, but if I start getting false positives I'll update this review. The distance at which these connections are good seems good as I have tested them in different parts of my house. I will probably buy two more for other areas. One thing I love about this design is that it sounds an alarm when it detects carbon monoxide and then talks about the carbon monoxide level so you know how much carbon monoxide has been detected. As I said in my other review of the ZCOMBO device, people shouldn't just assume that getting a CO alarm means the device is broken. There are many possible reasons carbon monoxide could be present in your home and before you declare it defective it is important to have a professional or the fire department check your home. If you search online for CO in your home, you will find that a crack can form in the furnace, causing the CO to mix with the heated air. In addition, gas appliances such as heaters and even gas stoves, if not properly ventilated, can introduce CO into the home. If one of them sets off a carbon monoxide alarm, take it very seriously because your life could be in danger. Never assume that an alarm clock is just broken until you are absolutely sure of it. I read a review on this product stating that the alarm on these devices may not be audible for elderly people with hearing loss. The alarms on these devices are very loud and someone would have to be really hard of hearing not to hear them. In fact, you should probably wear headphones when setting it up as the alarm clock is very loud. I would recommend that people wear earplugs even when testing these alarms. When building it is important to follow the instructions on the attached sheet because without instructions it is not easy to figure it out. I found the installation easy if you follow the instructions. There are also some overviews here with setup instructions that might be helpful as well. I think these are the best devices I could find to warn me of fire or CO when I'm home. The only problem is that it doesn't notify me when I'm not at home. I decided to also buy two Nest Protect smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, one for each floor of my home and in rooms that don't have this device, First Alert SCO500B. It's just too expensive for me to buy six Nest Protect alarm clocks that will cost around $700. I think by purchasing four of these units and two Nest Protect units I can get a good smoke/carbon monoxide alarm system at a reasonable price. will purchase a Ring Listener to be installed alongside the alarm and send an alert to Ring Alarm's monitoring company. I'm still concerned about connecting my ring alarm to smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. This is because when Ring Monitoring sends any type of alarm, even a false alarm, it sends the local fire department and they cannot be called back. My city has fines for false alarms, and your burglar alarm license can be suspended for too many false alarms. I think the First Alert SCO500B is a good smoke/carbon monoxide alarm and I would recommend this model. Note, however, that all fire alarms are now rated to last seven years. So be aware that in seven years all these units will have to be replaced with new ones.
