Review on Bilstein 24-187237 Rear Shock: Premium Replacement for GM Tahoe/Avalanche/Silver Models by Peris Holland

Easy to DIY, use a jack to make it easier, ratchet end of the box too.

Suburban 1500 4x4 2005 all in stock. Replaced original shock absorbers with a set of these 5100. Initial comments are based on a test drive with new front wheels only. The truck still rolls around corners, but a little less. It's definitely less springy and feels a little more durable. Be sure to replace all 4 shock absorbers. I have a question about stacking top mount bushings (2 top and bottom) and concave washers (2 top and bottom) on top of each other. I found the kanji instructions useless (at least I'm a bit educated, I can assemble Ikea furniture perfectly). I had to google to figure out how they work (make washers () around the bushings; the rubber lip of the bushings rubs into the truck's shock mount). My test ride with only two front shocks was generally unimpressive. I will update when I test ride all 4 shocks. You don't have to jack up the truck, but it makes the job easier. The bolts (rear top and bottom) on my truck are 13/16 but I used 22mm and 21mm. The upper mounting screw for the front was different between original and Bilstein (15mm and 17mm). Use a ratcheting box wrench, that's the perfect thing. Use a large vise to keep the rack from rotating. I tightened the top mounting bolt after putting the truck on the ground. just enough to push the rubber bushing out a little.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Negative present
