PULSE CABLE - ATTENTION!

Calmat comes with two impulse cords (each cord has a red connector at the end) that need to be wrapped tightly around the tube. At first glance they look like regular lamp filaments, but appearances can be deceiving. They are NOT safe for any application other than what they were designed for, in part because the manufacturer used ultra-thin insulation, presumably to maximize signal strength. One of my cables was fine. The other had several small breaks in the insulation, and while there was no danger if the bare wire touched the copper tubing, it would "short out" the turns of the cable. So if you had an open 12 inches from the red connector and the copper strands touched the pipe, the first 12 inches of winding would be useless - at least I suspect so. If like me you have small cracks in the wire you can seal them with clear silicone sealant cover and let dry. (Use a quick painting method that can be painted in half an hour.) Then take a piece of masking tape and place it about an inch in front of each tear so you know where each "repair" is. As you approach the break while wrapping the cable around the pipe, remove the cover tab and make sure the silicone repair is facing out. When finished, connect the continuity tester red wire to the red pulse wire connector and the black wire to the bare copper tubing. There shouldn't be any continuity. Hope that helps. Henry
