I've seen some reviews claiming it's 4 or more proof but I don't think they took temperature into account. You must follow the instructions correctly for each gauge to be accurate. The temperature of the alcohol affects the readings. Therefore, if the ambient temperature is 75 or 80 degrees, you must understand that your alcohol is not 60 degrees, which is the base temperature. So I tested it with a 100 proof white whiskey placed in a mini aging cask. The hydrometer read 108, then I measured the temperature of the whisky, which was 80 degrees. Then I got a proof of 99.8 using this company's chart on my website. accurate to +/- 0.2 as they claim. So make sure you fully and accurately check before claiming that it is incorrect. As other reviewers point out, spend the extra $10 and get the glass tube you need. Good product!
