Purchased to teach our 3-4 year old to finish or start an activity at a specific time. Someone else mentioned the ticking - it didn't bother me, it's not loud. Our little one loves it (he even used it to have more time for activities :)). Love the fold out stand and magnet to use in multiple locations and the fact that it's clockwork/no batteries. It's a big size to see the red light all over the room but still doesn't clog the fridge door when I tuck it there with a magnet. At first I was worried that my little one would break it when I read the instructions to always turn clockwise (not counter-clockwise) first - as he's too young to understand, but there's a clear hand on it the dial and he easily understood this concept.
