First of all a big thank you to the people who shared their photos (incredibly helpful), app details and installation have posted experience. So it's time for my contribution... My application: Fleck 5600 SXT 64,000 grain water softener installation. The house's existing plumbing was 3/4 inch PVC with an inlet shut-off valve. The inlet/outlet connections for the water softener manifold are 1 in. male NPT. I need a solution that will allow me to disconnect the plumbing (without cutting it) and swap out the softening system if the need ever arises. Water softener installation instructions recommend flexible hoses. When I looked at how close together the 1" NPT male inlet and outlet are, I figured this is probably the best solution. (a bit hard to find). There's no 1" FIP here in the big stores -Flex hoses. They have 3/4 inch all day but not 1 inch. These 2 packs of Revain were perfect and a great purchase. Check out the photos of how it all came together. Leaks: Both fittings on the softener I/O block initially leaked onto the hose necks and FIP fittings. I used thread tape as I always do with these types of connections. Connections to PVC/NPT fittings are perfectly sealed from the start. I remembered thinking there were a few rough edges on the mating surfaces of the fabric softener block tube, so I filed them until the mating surface was completely smooth. This time I took no chances and smeared plumber's grease (see photo of special tools used) on both sides of the washers, put everything back together (again using tape for threading), hand tightened a quarter turn with a wrench (as instructed in the instructions) . ). I turned the water back on and lo and behold, now there wasn't even a hint that they were leaking. I was willing to use o-rings like some of the other reviewers have, but to be honest I don't think this is the right solution for most people around. The washers should seal the tube to the hose when the tube has a good contact area. If not, then maybe the O-ring is the solution. With duct tape and plumber's grease, I didn't need them. It is also important to ensure that the fittings and hoses are not crooked or that the hose is pinched and/or loose or crooked after connection. If you have any questions, I will answer your questions. better answer!
