The battery should last a few days and we were lucky enough to get a full day of use from it. We really only put it on our dog, so if he needs a fix we can use the sound option for that. If you have a large breed and need a shock collar for training, I would not recommend using it for shock training at all (again for large breeds over 70lbs). Vibration is great and works well. The sound is not very loud but works for my dog. The collar reach sucks, but if you're not close enough it won't work.
