Revainrating 3 out of 5

Consumer ADVOCATE LONG TERM USE TEST- Two thumbs down. Do not buy-read why

UPDATE- Manufacturer came through with complete replacement of lamps with separation of the globe from the post. The response of the company-Coleman is commendable. They do support their product. I have changed rating to three stars based on the warranty replacements. There still is an issue with the fragile support posts. Keep string trimmers away.Very bright serious solar lighting with glass lens and metal housing. Multiple LEDs and 3 nimh AA cells. These actually work .They are not just for decoration. EASY TO SERVICE BATTERIESConsumerADVOCATE says two thumbs down. In a long term use test, I have had repeated failures with the plastic hollow tubes that attach globe to stake. They crack very easy. The bottomof the glass globe has a black plastic molded piece attached with screws that pushes into the topof the tube. The black molded assy is snapping off where it enters the post allowing globe to fall off. Why would a honorable company like Coleman make a nicely designed, very bright with good batteries solar path light, and construct it of trash plastic. If you buy this product figure a lifespan of to years in a variable climate like my Cincinnati. The plastic quickly becomes very brittle. And the plastic hollow tube is a joke. Make sure the ground is very moist when pushing stake in. Earlier units used metal tubes.*****UPDATE*****Manufacturer has changed construction which affects durability. Consumer ADVOCATE now does not recommend purchase. The pole support is now very thin hollow plastic and the spike is not designed to last. In fact, the first hit with a string trimmer and you can forget this solar light. The pole is as cheap as I have seen and truly disappointing, The lamp output is excellent as is access to the batteries. So, why Moonrays can't you afford a metal pole?
