An old thick black Nomex balaclava was issued to ensure the safety of the methamphetamine lab. These labs can explode and burn, and I don't want my pretty face to get burned. Now we're forced to use fentanyl and you don't want that stuff on your skin, but it doesn't explode or ignite. So a fat Nomex makes no sense - it's trying to melt your brain, it's hot as hell. ANYWAY - yes, it's light, less hot, and probably protects your face and neck from fentanyl dust.
