Review on πŸ•οΈ Carefree 291600 Vacation'r Screen Room: The Perfect Fit for 16' to 17' Awning by Stephen Zimmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I liked the room but it could have been better.

We purchased this product a week ago and used it over the 4th of July weekend. We bought the right size for our shed but little did my husband realize that the extra piece (to insert for the 17ft shed) was not needed in the build as we have a 16ft shed. He added an extra piece that caused quite a disaster when it rained. Water poured through one of the corners and flooded the room. Luckily I woke up to get the situation under control. We bought this room for the extra space so our cats would have an open space to play at night when we sleep. That didn't work in our favor at all. We had a heavy downpour and I had to evacuate the cats to the RV along with other things. I used 2-5 gallon buckets to catch the rain and about 6 towels to try to keep the water from flooding the whole room. I changed buckets 5 or 6 times because it rained almost 12 hours straight. It was a complete nightmare. We were able to go outside the next day, dry the mess and remove the extension cord. We found that this was always the problem. The assembly instructions weren't very clear, so my husband didn't realize that this part had to be left out. I didn't even think to tell him the room was made for 16 or 17 foot sheds. It wasn't until the room was flooded that I realized what we had done. I'm glad we bought the room but I have one complaint: I think the corners could have been better covered to keep out the rain. Even with proper assembly, rain can still drizzle through the 2 rear corners closest to the vehicle. Also, you have to be very careful when driving stakes into the ground to hold it up, as the straps holding it up can break. Don't tease it or it will happen. Another thing is the base that comes with the kit. It's just a vinyl material that needs to be cut and attached to the side of the car. I would prefer something more permanent so pets can't escape. They didn't come out, but it didn't take long for them to find out. The cuts you have to make to get around the steps create a lot of holes, so you have to get really creative to add extra protection. We used velcro to attach it to our car instead of the 3m tape that came with the gear. This seemed to work well, but not in spots where rain might hit the top edges. Another thing is that it would be nice if the windows were closed from the inside and not just from the outside. I really wish this thing had a built in floor as well. but I guess there was no way to do this when it was made for so many different sizes. One thing we did was cover the tarp on the inside before putting the carpet on the outside. This helped prevent water from seeping through the floor when it rained. It was definitely a learning experience!
