Ten years ago I started a project to digitize my large vinyl collection. I bought a CD recorder and burned several hundred CDs on it, but eventually it stopped working. The project was dormant for several years until I bought a Behringer U-PHONO UFO202. At the moment I've recorded about 50 CDs and I'm happy with the result. I took my player to my office and hooked it up to my Windows 10 laptop so I could control the recording while I worked. The U-PHONO is delivered without software. I downloaded the recommended free app, Audacity, which works very well. One of the problems I had with the CD burner was track splitting: its built-in track splitting didn't really work for LPs (as admitted in the CD burner's documentation), so I had to split tracks during recording inserting manually, that was a pain. With Audacity I can record an entire LP (two or four sides) and then insert track snippets and tag tracks using the visual indicator. I also use the Normalize and Click Distance effects and sometimes the Noise Reduction effect for badly worn vinyl with lots of noise. I save recordings as MP3 files (which requires an additional download), but you can also use WAV or OGG formats. Update: After recording many recordings, I found that I was using the default Windows setting for the recording format, which is 1 channel. Consequently, I only recorded the left channel on stereo records. I didn't notice this because I plugged my headphones into a headphone output on a device that provides both channels, and Audacity assigned one channel to both channels in the recordings. I didn't fully realize this issue until I listened to a recording of Purple Haze that had Hendrix's vocals missing from the correct channel. So if you are using this with Windows 10, set the recording to 2 channels: Settings -> Devices -> Sound settings -> Recording -> Microphone (USB Audio CODEC) -> Advanced -> Default format -> 2 channels, 16 - Bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) -> Apply.
