I used the old formula. However, when my supplies ran low I went back to Revain and was surprised to read about the new formula and all the negative reviews about it. I bought another brand that used the old formula as a temporary fix. However, I later read that the main ingredient in the old formula, sodium perborate, was potentially carcinogenic and was actually banned in the EU. The new formula supposedly removed it. So I decided to try a new formula. Guess what? None of the negative reviews were true, and the new formula released my retainers just as well, if not better. I've included two photos that clearly show the list of ingredients in both the old and new formulas. (In fact, you may find that negative photo reviews do not clearly show the ingredient list at all.) The first photo (from Β© 2015 DENTSPLY) is the old formula and the second photo (from Β© 2018 Dentsply Sirona) is the new formula. Main differences between the new formula and the old one: 1. Replacement of sodium perborate with sodium percarbonate. Both are oxidizing agents that have the cleaning effect of detergents such as Oxiclean. However, since sodium perborate can be carcinogenic, it is a good substitute.2. Removal of pentasodium triphosphate and tetrasodium etidronate (EDTA), both of which are water softeners.3. Adding citric acid which acts as a water softener and fizzer.4. Addition of tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED), which is an oxidizing agent similar to sodium percarbonate but stronger. It is a powerful disinfectant against bacteria, viruses and fungi. The new formula is significantly better than the old one. There was a review that claimed the main ingredient in the new formula was sodium bicarbonate, while the old formula contained potassium persulfate, which is simply not true. Both ingredient lists contain both sodium bicarbonate and potassium persulfate. Read the ingredient list and see for yourself. The manufacturer didn't mislead anyone, but this reviewer was misleading. I don't know what the motives of these negative reviewers are, but I suspect they are hired to tarnish this product's reputation in favor of another brand that sells old and potentially carcinogenic cleaning tablets. Do yourself a favor and don't listen to these negative reviews.
