Review on SilverStone RL-FS303B Hot-Swapable Hard πŸ’½ Drive Enclosure: Convenient Front Bay Solution by Mariqn Carey

Extremely beautiful body. for most of us. :)

I love this product. I can't stop looking at the brushed aluminum or HDD activity lights, which are way too pretty for something like this. They are solid blue to indicate a hard drive is in that slot, then flicker purplish pink when the drive is reading/writing. This would make PC enthusiasts very happy, especially if they like to make the whole computer glow. But for those who are more modest or need to sleep in the same room with their computer, there's a switch on the back of the unit to turn off the hard drive's backlight (as well as one to set the fan speed high, low, or off). . In that sense, the fan also seems to keep the drives very cool and is (to me) barely audible. The lock feature seems to work pretty well, I play around with it when I'm bored at my desk. I don't expect this to protect against someone who really wants to steal your data, but I think it was more to prevent you from accidentally disconnecting a drive you don't want to erase, or children, pets, or your legs, etc .from causing a problem. The key is a small triangular hole that makes it a bit more difficult to access with regular tools. However, there is a small annoyance. SilverStone clearly tried to design it to fit most computer cases, but on my Corsair Vengeance C70, the 5.25-inch bay lugs were too long. glides as it should. It also fits very snugly on the sides, but then again, that might just be my case. But after dealing with that little quirk, I'm delighted as a punch. to stick with straight SATA cables. Depending on your configuration, right angle cables can be a headache with this device. One more note. In some cases, you can use this case with 1 SATA power cable. My drives have been adapted to 2.5" drives, so of course they use less power. That's probably why it worked for me. But as with most PC-related things, connect the devices however you want, using fewer power cords or using mostly 2.5-inch or SSD drives. [This is not a product feature and is not a guarantee it will work in your situation, just what I noticed.] Anyway, just get it. You will love it. :)

Pros
  • Full SATA hot-swap support
Cons
  • Big and bulky
