6ft 3in 230lbs and my waist is 37in so some 38in shorts fit fine and some are loose and i can wear 36in but they are too tight. Now that you know what dress size I might be wearing this will help you choose the size as size charts don't apply to them. 2XL was too loose for me. They should fit like a second skin and not bunch up like a rashguard or move too easily. The top 6 inches of the belt was loose and the hips were loose as well. Only the bottom of the legs were firm enough, but I could tell they would move all over the place and ball up if I went in the water. I just read through all the reviews to figure out what size to order but I still guessed wrong. They appear to be very well made but the lack of a proper size chart can make choosing the right size a guessing game Is it necessary to try it on to buy correctly as different brands can fit differently when I ordered them they cost $25 with Prime but when I reordered they went up to $40 plus shipping. I am returning them and getting XL for another brand and hopefully have a better fit.
