Software installation error, drivers need to be downloaded from a separate page

I never write reviews but this time I'm writing because the software for this SUX thing is installed! If you think you're "pointing" your browser to xxxxxxxxxx.xxx/xxxxx, download it and get started. HA! Think again! Installing OBDwiz gave error 2503 and then 2502. I know how to get around these errors but out of curiosity I contacted scantools support who sent me to the scantools forum (these are just other people who bought this stuff, to help each other). The person had this error on Win10 and I'm not kidding, it was posted in a YouTube baby video. Where the kid talked about spaces in "folder" names and made it at least 40 times harder than it really is. The man complained and an "employee" from Scantools.net walked in and pointed it out to him. Another website. Enough of my curiosity, I got Error 2503, 02. So now I can go. Right? Not correct! OBDwiz is running but not connecting to SX. Why? A red light on the SX means no drivers have been installed. (So why didn't the driver pack arrive?) I went to the download site, searched, finally found the drivers for Win8.1 x64. Click sent to the chip manufacturer's website. Drivers downloaded and installed. There was also a "other" device. Return to the chip support site. Turns out you need to install the driver twice! Then there are two devices on the computer. (USB and COM port) I'm MSCE and it all took 5 hours to install OBDwiz, install drivers and OBDwiz to "see" the SX link. I don't know how this would work as an OBD tool, but I'm seriously considering returning the whole thing as there is NO tech support for the software. How good is it as an OBD tool?

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Some trouble
