They seem pretty light, which is good, but even so. That creates confidence in the quality. They have more metal than you think for the weight as I watched the videos on YouTube and most of the guts are metal. The range for me was about 0.5 miles in heavily wooded areas. I have no doubt they would do more with open space/and line of sight. It is good that you can replace the antenna that I ordered, just wait for them to come and I will test again. in general they cope with their task. Only 3 stars for battery life as I haven't actually tested it. They are easy to use but allegedly illegal without a license. thanks to a detachable antenna, programmable functions and 5 watts of power. In general I am satisfied with them. And there will be no sense from them. I think they will survive bumps/falls with no problem. Earplugs are cheap. I have purchased a quality replacement and am waiting for it to arrive. Overall for family/shtf communications or for basic security work. within 0.5 miles they will get the job done. but do not expect the specified range! Note] I've successfully programmed them several times with the CHIRP software using the cable that came with it! No reason to worry
