Budget belt sander

I seem to have tried many belt sanders - probably my fourth or fifth in the last few years. In the past I've gravitated towards expensive brands like DeWalt, Makita, and Bosch, but I realize that the difference in performance between the two isn't big enough to justify the difference in cost. My last Makita was a great car, but it cost five times as much as this Eastvolt setup and didn't even last two years. Performance or durability benefits, then I could use inexpensive "disposable" brands and just settle for regularly replacing them the normal way. With that in mind, I was keen to try Eastvolt. Out of the box, the Eastvolt appeared to be a smart design. It's quite durable, although not at the level of premium brands. It feels good in your hands and seems to have a little less vibration than some of the other brands I've used. After a big project, I don't feel like my hands are squeezing a beehive. Plus, you can turn it into a stationary belt sander with the included clamp, and it's a great option for small, intricate jobs. It is easy to use, including changing and leveling sanding belts. I found it to be quite powerful, although I did notice that when sanding some hardwoods it tends to heat up/warm up around the engine, especially if you're using coarse sand to remove a lot of material. Eastvolt has a variable speed. . I've found that low speeds might be too low, but higher speeds are fine for most things. However, it doesn't seem to be as aggressive as well-known brands. Perhaps the problem is the smaller belt - this unit is 3x18, not 3x21 on my previous unit. Undoubtedly, this will increase the sanding time over a large area. But the bottom line is that the project I finished with Eastvolt was no different than the results I've had with other brands. Seen in this way, I'm happy to do without my Makita, Bosch and DeWalt and save about 80%. If like me you'd rather invest your money in tools that improve the end product then saving a little on a belt sander seems like a no-brainer and this Eastvolt product is worth considering.
