The wires are separated so they can be used separately
Maybe I'm a bit stupid but when I first ordered them I was a little annoyed because I thought that the wires need only be within groups of 40. To my delight I found that each wire can be separated from the rest leaving you with 120 individual wires (maybe I should have known that from the start).
